Parts of a Lawn Irrigation System
Classic Lawnscape
designs, installs, services and repairs lawn
irrigation systems in Blaine and throughout the surrounding
areas. So we often have to explain these systems to our customers and
give them a rundown of how they work. Here are a few definitions of
the most common parts of lawn irrigation systems, how they work and
why they are so important to well designed lawn irrigation systems.
Controllers and
Timers
As
their names suggest, the controllers and timers are what control the
lawn irrigation system and tell it when to stop and start the water.
The controller is the “brain” of the system, and it is what tells
each part of the system what to do. The timers are what turn the
water on and off for each zone of the lawn irrigation system. The
controllers and timers will be programmed by the technician that
installs the lawn irrigation systems.
Backflow
Prevention Device
These
devices are what keep lawn irrigation systems and their water lines
and other parts from contamination. Installed on potable water lines,
they protect against back-siphonage and back-pressure of polluted or
contaminated water into the water supply line of the irrigation
system. These devices are important to help protect against pollution
and the associated health hazards.
Weather and Flow
Sensor
These devices are what tell the timer if there has already been
enough natural rain fall. The timer then knows not to start the water
and possibly over-water your yard. Weather and flow sensors are
important parts of lawn irrigation systems because they help decrease
the chances that water will be wasted and your yard or landscaping
will be over-watered and possibly suffer bad side effects as a
result.
Water Filer
The water filter is what takes sediment and other contaminants out of
the lawn irrigation system's water supply. This filter helps the
system work better and more efficiently by keeping dirt and other
debris from getting into the system and causing clogs, blockages and
other problems. These problems, if left unchecked, could end up being
expensive to repair in the long run.
